The Draper Café

The Draper Café was a popular family owned and operated restaurant.

This website is a tribute to The Draper Café and the family that started it all!

The man behind the counter with his arms crossed is Bill Farris who was the owner.

How it all started...

The Draper Café was established in the year of 1959. It was located in the heart of Draper, now known as Eden, North Carolina. The Draper Café was owned and operated by a married couple named Bill and Virginia Farris. The couple opened the café shortly after closing their former business, The Piedmont Café, which was located in downtown Stoneville, North Carolina. The Piedmont Café was in operation from 1950 until 1959. At that time, the Farris family decided to move to Eden and open The Draper Café. This restaurant was a staple in the community when it was in it's heyday. People in the community loved it and ate there quite often. The café was open daily from 5:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. The restaurant served meats and vegetables everyday as well as breakfast, sandwiches, sides, and dessert items.  The café was especially well-known for their delicious hamburger steaks. The Draper Café was located directly across from Fieldcrest Mills which was one of the biggest employers in that area at the time. This really helped the Farris' business especially during the mill's lunch hour.
